Collecting Phalaris along the Golden Canal (Zlata Stoka), Trebon

In our numerous trips throughout Bohemia and Moravia to collect reed canarygrass, Phalaris arundinacea, we have seen incredible and breathtaking scenery and ancient buildings. Here are some glimpses of what we saw going along the Golden Canal which runs from the Luznice River to the numerous fish ponds surrounding the Trebon area (including Rosenberg Pond, see earlier posts). It is a vital lifeline of fresh water to the ponds. As a link between this important river and the fish ponds, the Golden Canal is also a conduit for reed canarygrass to spread.

On this day in October, one could see another reason why this is called The Golden Canal.  Leaves of autumn reflect in the canal and float along...

Here, at water's edge we find reed canarygrass.

The Golden Canal passes Trebon, just outside the city gates:

Around this area, numerous gardens have sprung up along the walking paths.

But most delightful of all is the ancient fortress of the Regent Brewing Company! See the delightful vistas provided by the towers, dam, and magnificent structures along the canal.

Isn't it just one of the most delightful sights ever?

As sunset darkens the sky, we head in for warmth...time to refresh around a bowl of hot soup and some Regent beer!
